New “Best of Borg” Series at The Fountains

borg beyond beliefThe Fountains’ Sunday morning Adult Education class, RxEKNEW, will be beginning a new series on Sunday, January 19th at 10:15. “Marcus Borg: Beyond Belief” is a brand new DVD program featuring favorite moments, core teachings and extensive never-before seen material from the LtQ archives plus commentary from Rev. Marianne Borg. A long-time friend and contributor to Living the Questions, this series is a tribute to one of the most influential teachers and authors of his generation. Marcus passed away in January of 2015.

A renowned New Testament scholar, theologian and author, Borg was among the most widely known and influential voices in progressive Christianity and internationally known in both academic and church circles. As a member of the “Jesus Seminar,” Marcus brought clarity and insight to an understanding of Jesus and Christianity that was both accessible and transformative. The New York Times described him as “a leading figure in his generation of Jesus scholars.”

Topics include:

  • Centered in the Spirit
  • Meeting Jesus Again
  • Followers of the Way
  • Reading the Bible
  • An Emerging Way
  • Beyond Belief

One of the producers of the program, Fountains’ Pastor, Rev. David Felten, says, “This Living the Questions” series not only captures the essence of Borg’s teachings, but offers personal insights for Borg ‘groupies’ from Episcopal Priest, the Rev. Marianne Borg, a gifted and inspiring speaker in her own right.” Marianne says, “What you’re going to hear in the series is, if you will, the best of Borg. For some of us, it’ll be like hearing Marcus again for the first time. For many of us, a lot of this is still going to be new. There is something about Marcus’s work that I think will continue to make all things new in a way that we can look afresh at Christianity in the 21st century – what it means for the living of our days, what is real, and how should we live.”

The sessions are free and open to anyone to attend and participate. For more information, contact the office at 480.837.7627. Childcare is available.
