About The FountainsAt The Fountains, our purpose is simple: to connect with God and serve others with thought-provoking openness and honesty. If you value Biblical integrity and celebrating the joy and hope that comes with embracing your authentic spirituality, you'll be among friends at The Fountains. Together we reach, touch, and teach by living and sharing the story of Jesus! Keep the Faith. Drop the Dogma. If you're looking for a "What we believe" page, you're going to be disappointed. Seems that United Methodists aren't that big on requiring its adherents to believe a bunch of stuff in order to be a part of the movement. United Methodists in general tend to be short on dogma & doctrine and long on grace. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement wasn't especially concerned with dogma. Unlike other traditions, there's not a doctrinal statement at the bottom of which you have to sign on the "dotted line." In his sermon, "The Catholic Spirit," Wesley says, "If your heart is as my heart, then take my hand." His ultimate concern was for every Christian to experience and practice the love of God in Christ. As for the rest, as Bishop Ken Cardner states, we "think and let think."Our Vision Ideally, the United Methodist Church is an inclusive, theologically pluralistic, non-dogmatic Christian church that encourages its members to think, question, and explore the religious experience. The Fountains is committed to Methodist founder John Wesley's tenets of commitment to Christ, freedom from rigid creeds, the means of grace, and the use of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral in serving others and seeking to live the life of a disciple. Purpose & Mission At The Fountains, our purpose is to connect with God and serve others with thought-provoking openness and honesty, emphasizing Biblical integrity and celebrating the joy and hope that comes with embracing one's authentic spirituality. So, our mission is to reach, touch, and teach by living and sharing the story of Jesus. OPEN HEARTS, OPEN MINDS, OPEN DOORS In the spirit of the United Methodist church's national emphasis on Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors, we seek to model Jesus' radical inclusivity and hospitality by welcoming and affirming all people, regardless of their age, sex, race, ability, or sexual orientation. |
