Mission Teams at the Fountains
The Fountains Mission teams have serviced in several areas in the United States, Mexico and Liberia. We believe in helping our neighbors far and near and support projects that help people to become self sufficient. We also learn new cultures, new foods and other ways of relating to people to form friendships across the miles.
Our most active mission programs focus on Fountain Hills’ Extended Hands Food Bank, United Methodist Outreach Ministries (UMOM), Justa Center, and the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR).
Some of the ways we serve:
The Fountains has an ongoing ministry to collect food and support Extended Hands Food Bank, which is located in and serves families in Fountain Hills.
We help provide meals and personal care kits to the Watkins Emergency Overflow Shelter for homeless families through UMOM (United Methodist Outreach Ministries).
At Justa Center is close to the hearts of many of our Veterans because a large percentage of homelss seniors, helped at Justa Center, are Veterans. One of our members provides hair cuts, monthly. Others are working to secure transitional housing opportunities and our involvement keeps growing.
UMCOR is an outreach ministry that supports communities here and abroad in crisis situations: hurricanes, tsunamis, flooding, earthquakes, etc. The Fountains is active in collecting and assembling materials needed for emergency kits including flood buckets and birthing kits (for undeveloped countries).
Farther from home mission teams have travelled to New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to support sister church, Shaw Temple, and the parish they serve. Our Youth, recently, travelled with Sierra Service Project to inner city Los Angeles to repair homes for some of the residents.
